ACME forays into wind power with 50 MW Gujarat project
The ACME Group has forayed into wind power business with a 50 MW grid-connected project in Gujarat for supplying electricity to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL).
This is a significant milestone in line with the group’s vision to become a prominent player in solar-wind hybrid and round-the-clock renewable energy arena, a company statement quoted COO Sandeep Kashyap.
The wind power project is to be commissioned within 24 months from the signing of the power purchase agreement. The project will help light up nearly six million homes.
ACME currently operates solar power plants in 12 states and supplies electricity to 13 discoms. The company has 2,600 MW solar capcity under various stages of construction and commissioning in Rajasthan.

Sitiveni Rabuka elected as new Prime Minister of Fiji
Sitiveni Rabuka was confirmed as Fiji’s next Prime Minister more than two decades after the former military commander first held the office in a term lasting nearly seven years. The 74-year-old won the nomination by one vote over incumbent Frank Bainimarama at a sitting of the Fijian Parliament in Suva. It also signals the end of former Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama’s 16 years in power. In the 55-member Parliament of Fiji, Sitiveni Rabuka secured 28 votes against Bainimarama’s 27 votes.
He was democratically elected as Prime Minister of Fiji, serving from 1992 to 1999, and again in 2022 leading a three-party coalition.
Global Trade Surges to $32 Trillion Record in 2022 Says UN
The value of global trade is set to reach a new record this year, increasing by about 12 per cent to an estimated $32 trillion, according to a UN report that signaled a slowdown heading into 2023. “The substantial trade growth during the last year was largely due to increases in the value of the trade of energy products,” the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development said in the report.
Trade in merchandise goods soared to $25 trillion, an increase of about 10 per cent versus the prior year. Trade in services grew 15 per cent year-over-year to nearly $7 trillion, according to the report.

India Takes Over Leadership of the Asian Pacific Postal Union
India has taken over the leadership of the Asia Pacific Postal Union (APPU) in January 2023. Dr Vinaya Prakash Singh will take over the charge of Secretary General of the Union for a tenure of 4 years. This is the result of the elections during the 13th APPU Congress held in August-September 2022.
There are 32 members in this international organisation from the Asia-Pacific. It is a specific department inside the UN. The sole Restricted Union of the Universal Postal in the area is this one. The Asia Pacific Postal Union’s headquarters are in Bangkok, Thailand.
The goal of APPU is to extend, facilitate and improve postal relations between member countries and to promote cooperation in the field of postal services. As the regional center for various UPU projects, APPU also takes the lead in ensuring that all technical and operational projects of the UPU are fulfilled in the region so that the region is integrated into the global postal network in the best possible way.
Govt seeks to ban social media sites’ promotion of online betting
The Government of India is proposing the ban on promotion of Online Betting on the Social Media platforms. The Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, have recently been recommended for revision by the Central government to control the Indian online gaming market. The suggestion was made to protect consumers from any harm that skill-based games might cause.
The fact that between 40 and 45 percent of gamers in India are female makes maintaining the security of the gaming industry even more crucial.
E-sports gets recognition from the Indian government as part of multisports events
Esports received a huge boost from the Indian government. It is incorporated into the nation’s mainstream sports disciplines. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, amended the regulations governing eSports in accordance with the authority “conferred by clause (3) of article 77 of the Constitution” and requested that “e-Sports be included as part of multi-sports events” from the Ministries of Electronics and Information Technology and Sports.
E-sports after being added to the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta as a demonstration sport, which meant that medals earned in the sport were not included in the official total of medals.
There had been an increase in desire for Esports to be included in the curriculum of multi-discipline competitions.
