Govt committed for GIB conservation
Union Environment, forests and <a href="https://exam.pscnotes.com/Climate-change”>Climate Change ministerBhupender Yadavsaid that the government is committed for conservation of the critically endangered bird Great Indian Bustard (GIB), with two captive breeding centres set up inRajasthanexpected to raise its Population.
The minister was addressing a gathering in Gandhinagar on how theNarendra Modigovernment promoted green Growth in nine years by integrating development and environmental conservation.
The GIB population dwindled mainly due to poaching and because of a particular diet these birds need, he said. To a question about overhead cables being one of the causes of the drop in GIB population.
According to wildlife experts, GIB are found in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh andAndhra Pradesh, but their numbers have declined to just four to five in other states, except Rajasthan.
