Gujarat’s groundnut exports continue upward trend
The export of groundnut has continued its upward journey by clocking a 19% growth in
terms of volume following a good demand from the international market.
According to the provisional data compiled by Agricultural and Processed Food Products
Export Development Authority (APEDA), the groundnut export from India surged close to
1.9 lakh tonnes during April-September period this fiscal as against 1.6 lakh tonnes in the
same period last financial year.
Being the largest producer of groundnut in India, Gujarat accounted roughly for around 55%
of the groundnut exports made during April-September period.
In rupee terms, the exports growth is even higher at 33%. The exports touched Rs 1,776
crore in the first six months of 2020-21 from Rs 1,328 crore in the first half of 2019-20,
APEDA data further shows.
Majority of groundnut exports have been to Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines,
Thailand and China.

Groundnut oil exports have seen even bigger jump in exports mainly on account of heavy
buying by China.
The increase in export demand for groundnut and its oil has come as a major boon to
Gujarat, which is expected to harvest a record production of 35 lakh tonnes this kharif
season.
Gujarat had also registered a 57% growth in groundnut exports in 2019-20. The exports
stood at 4.7 lakh tonnes as compared to 3 lakh tonnes in 2018-19.

India is the only country to achieve 2°C goal under Paris Agreement among all G20
nations: Prakash Javadekar
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said India is the only country on track to achieve the 2°C
goal under the Paris Agreement among all the G20 nations.
The 2°C goal aims to keep the global temperature rise below 2°C from pre-industrial levels
by 2100.
The Paris Agreement of 2016 is a historic international accord that brings almost 200
countries together in setting a common target to reduce global greenhouse emissions in an
effort to fight climate change.

The pact seeks to keep global temperature rise to below 2 degrees Celsius from pre-
industrial levels, and to try and limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees
Celsius.

Kanoor Renewable Village is the 1st Step towards PM’s Carbon Neutral Ladakh

The foundation stone of PM Narendra Modi’s Dream to Make Ladakh Carbon Neutral has
been started from Kanoor Village of Kargil which has been the first Renewable Village in
Ladakh.
This was stated by the MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyail while inaugurating the 12 Solar
Roof Top 5 Kw Power Plants in different hamlets of Kanoor Village.

Carbon neutrality refers to achieving net zero carbon dioxide emissions by balancing carbon
dioxide emissions with removal or simply eliminating carbon dioxide emissions altogether.
Ethanol Blended Programme in India
Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) programme was launched in January, 2003. The programme
sought to promote the use of alternative and environment-friendly fuels and to reduce
import dependency for energy requirements.
In a normal sugar season, domestic consumption is 260 LMT, while sugar production is
approximately 320 LMT.
♦ The remaining 60 LMT of surplus sugar has not yet been sold, reducing the sugar mill’s
funds by about 190 billion rupees each year, which affects the sugar mill’s liquidity position
and causes farmers’ sugarcane price arrears to accumulate.
♦ In order to deal with the excess inventory of sugar, the government encourages sugar
factories to export sugar, and the government has been providing financial assistance.
Earlier, the government set a target of 10% mixing ratio of fuel-grade ethanol and gasoline
by 2022 and 20% mixing ratio by 2030, but now the government is making plans to achieve
the 20% mixing ratio target.
♦ However, since the blending goal cannot be achieved only by converting sugar cane/sugar
into ethanol, the government also encourages distillation plants to produce ethanol from
other raw materials (such as grains, etc.), which are currently not sufficient for distillation.
♦ Therefore, the government is also working to improve the country's distillation capacity.
IRNSS Accepted As a Component of The World Wide Radio Navigation System
The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) has been accepted by the
International Maritime Organization (IMO) as part of the World Radio Navigation System
(WWRNS) operating in the Indian Ocean region.
This will enable merchant ships to use IRNSS to obtain location information similar to GPS
and GLONASS to assist in navigating longitude in seawater in areas covered by 50°N latitude,
55°E longitude, 5°S and 110°E.
♦ IRNSS is an independent regional navigation satellite system developed by India. It aims to
provide accurate location information services to assist ships in the Indian Ocean waters.
♦ India has become the fourth country in the world to have an independent regional
navigation satellite system, which has been recognized by the IMO as a part of WWRNS.

♦ The other three countries whose navigation systems have been approved by the IMO are
the United States, Russia and China.
