Gujarat’s ‘Dagri cow’ gets national recognition as indigenous breed

‘Dagri cow’ which is found in the tribal heartland of Central Gujarat has got national recognition paving way for conservation and preservation of its genes.

After Gir, Kankrej and Dangi, Dagri is the fourth indigenous breed of cow from Gujarat to get national recognition from the National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR), the nodal agency of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) that registers the new breeds.

With funding from animal husbandry department of Gujarat government, AAU and Kutch-based NGO – Sahjeevan – is conducting surveys of unrecognised breeds by studying their phenotypic and genetic characterization after which such proposals are submitted to the central government through the state government for recognition of such indigenous breeds.

Naval Exercise of India and France

 

India will participate in French naval exercises in the Bay of Bengal this month. This is the first French naval exercise that the Indian Navy will participate in. The exercise is called La Perouse.  Highlights:

 

Japan, Australia and the United States of America will participate in the exercise. According to the French Embassy, from March 30 to April 1, two French navy ships, Surcouf and Tonnerre, made a port call at Kochi. They will then sail to the Bay of Bengal to participate in the exercise. The French naval exercise La Perouse will be held from April 5th to 7th.

 

France, India, the United States, Australia and Japan will participate in this exercise. The two French ships that further participated in the La Perouse competition at the Kochi port were The Surcouf and Tonnerre. The first La Perouse was held in 2019 with France, the United States, Australia and Japan. The name of the Indian and French naval exercises is-Varuna Naval Exercises. It was first carried out in 1983. Then came La Perouse, and then Varuna in the Arabian Sea.

 

 

NATIONAL

 

Government Issues Unique Land Parcel Identification Number ULPIN Pin

 

The central government plans to issue a 14-digit identification number for each piece of land in India within one year. Highlights:

 

Subsequently, it will integrate its land records database with income court records and bank records and Aadhaar numbers on a voluntary basis.

 

In 2021, Unique Land Parcel Identification Number (ULPIN) scheme was launched in 10 states

 

It will be promoted across India in March 2022

 

It is described as a ” the Aadhaar for land “-this number will uniquely identify each land under investigation and prevent land fraud, especially in rural India

 

The identification will be based on the longitude and latitude of the plot and will depend on detailed surveys and geo-referenced cadastral maps.

 

This is the next step of the “Digital Indian Land Record Modernization Program” (DILRMP), which started in 2008 and has expanded several times as the scope expands.

 

Military Farms – Indian Army Has Closed Them

 

After 132 years of service, the Indian army closed its military farm on March 31. The military farm is a farm established to provide hygienic milk to the entire British Indian garrison. Highlights:

 

Now that the military farm has been closed, all farm officials and workers have been redeployed within the ministry to continue to provide services to the organization.

 

Various proposals to close the farm have been made in the past.

 

In 2012, the Quarter Master General branch proposed to close.

 

After independence, 30,000 cattle have been added to 130 farms across India.

 

In the 1990s, even farms were established in Leh and Kargil.

 

For more than a century, these farms supplied 35 million liters of milk and 25,000 tons of hay every year.

 

These farms provided Yeoman-style services during the 1971 War, supplying milk to the Northern Command on the front lines of the Western and Eastern War and during Operation Kargil.

 

Biggest Floating Solar Power Plant in India

 

India’s largest floating solar power plant will be built in Ramagundam, Telangana. The solar power plant has a capacity of 100 megawatts. It is expected to open in May 2021. Highlights:

 

The solar power plant is being built in the reservoir of Ramagundam Thermal Power Plant. The solar power plant will be built on 450 acres of the reservoir.

 

The project was commissioned by NTPC (National Thermal Power Company). NTPC’s goal is to reduce the carbon footprint through the solar power plant and increase the output of green energy to 30% of its production capacity.

 

The cost of the project is estimated to be 4.23 billion rupees. The power plant will have 450,000 photovoltaic panels.

 

India is building the world’s largest solar power plant on the Omkar Eshwar Dam on the Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh. The cost of the solar power plant project is estimated to be Rs 30 crore. The project is expected to start generating electricity in 2022-23.

 

India’s first floating solar power plant was installed in Kolkata in 2014. Currently, India’s largest floating solar power plant is located in the Banasura Sagar Reservoir in Wayanad, Kerala. The plant has a capacity of 500 kilowatts.

 

 

Tribes India Contest by TRIFED

 

TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Market Development Association Limited), the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Indian government launched two interesting competitions for the tribal people. They are the Become a Brand Ambassador of the Indian Tribe and Become a Friend of the Indian Tribe contest. The competition was initiated jointly with MyGov.in. Highlights:

 

The launch of the competition is mainly to promote tribal handicrafts, lifestyle and culture. These competitions will help raise public awareness of tribal heritage, handicrafts and arts. With more awareness, citizens will make more contributions to tribal empowerment by buying more tribal products.
