Tractors demand rises in Gujarat after lockdown
The shortage of migrant labourers and rising wages have prompted the farmers in the state
to go in for collaboration and buying tractors and harvesters. The sale of tractors and
harvesters in the state has increased, especially after the lockdown.
The sale of tractors in three months from July has picked up. Around 71% of the sale of
tractors in 2020 took place during these three months. Of the 41,700 tractors sold in 2020,
the sale in three months was 30,000. Not just tractors but the sale of harvesters also
increased during the same period — about 80 harvesters have been bought by the farmers
in just three months.

Usually about 500 harvesters used to come to Gujarat during the harvesting season for sale.
However this year, these harvesters could not make it to the state. Hence, the farmers felt
their urgent need. A group of farmers got together and invested Rs 21 to 24 lakh. Also a
subsidy of Rs 8 lakh was given by the government.
