Gujarat CM to sign MoUs with 10 institutions pertaining to Climate Change
With a view to bring revolutionary changes in study of the climatic change sector, Chief
Minister Vijay Rupani is going to sign the MoUs with as many as 10 institutions on the
12 th foundation day of the ‘Climate Change Department.
Information department stated that knowing the significance of the climatic studies, Prime
Minister Narendra Modi, when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat, had setup The Climate
Change Department in Gujarat Government.

United Nations Day: 24 October
October 24 has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948.
The United Nations officially came into being after the signatory documents which includes
the five permanent members of the Security Council.
The United Nations officially came into existence on 24 October 1945.
The year 2020 marks the 75th year of the UN's existence.
The theme for 2020 is 'The Future We Want, the UN We Need: Reaffirming our Collective
Commitment to Multilateralism’.
World Polio Day: 24 October
The World Polio Day is celebrated annually on October 24.
The day is observed to raise awareness for polio vaccination and eradication of polio.
It provides an opportunity to highlight global efforts toward a polio-free world and honour
the tireless contributions of those on the frontlines in the fight to eradicate polio from every
corner of the globe.
As of August 2020, Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only two nations which remain with the
continued transmission of wild poliovirus.
2020 theme “A win against polio is a win for global health.”

US approves sale of weapons systems worth around 1.8 billion dollar to Taiwan
The US State Department has approved the sale of weapons systems worth around 1.8
billion dollar to Taiwan.

The deal comprised three weapons systems, including rocket launchers, sensors and
artillery.
Taiwan welcomed the decision and said the weapons will help improve its defensive
capabilities to deal with the enemy threat and new situation.
China said that the arms deal will likely have a major impact on its relationship with the US.

India Posts releases 75th Anniversary of UN Commemorative Stamp
Department of Posts (DOP), Ministry of Communications released a commemorative
postage stamp on the 75th anniversary of the United Nations Organisations.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Anurag Srivastava stated India attaches the highest
priority to the expansion of the UN Security Council so that it reflects contemporary realities
of the world.
He stated reformed multilateralism will be a key pillar of the overall approach in the
upcoming innings of India as a non-permanent member.
It may be noted that the Department of Posts has previously released similar
commemorative postage stamps on the UN’s 9th, 40th, and 50th Anniversaries in 1954,
1985, and 1995 respectively.

Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin gets nod for phase 3 clinical trials

India's indigenous COVID-19 vaccine candidate, COVAXIN, developed by Bharat Biotech in
collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has received the nod for
Phase-3 clinical trials in the country.
The Subject Expert Committee which functions under the drug regulator Drug Controller
General of India (DCGI) has given approval for the last phase of clinical trials with certain
conditions.
In the Third Phase of trials, which is proposed to begin in the first week of next month, the
potential vaccine candidate will be tested on over 28 thousand people aged 18 years and
above.

These tests will be conducted across 10 states and 19 sites including Delhi, Mumbai, Patna
and Lucknow among others.
Besides, Bharat Biotech's COVAXIN, another indigenously developed vaccine candidate by
Zydus Cadila Limited is also in Phase -2 of human clinical trials.
UP govt secures first rank in disbursing loans under PM Swanidhi Scheme

Uttar Pradesh government has secured the first rank in central government's one of the
most ambitious schemes – the PM Atmanirbhar Nidhi Scheme (SVANidhi Scheme).
State has ranked first in all the categories – Applications, Sanctions and Disbursements of the
loans under the scheme.
As many as 6,22,167 applications were received under the scheme in the state which is
highest in the country, out of which sanctions were given to 3,46,150 applicants while the
loans were disbursed to 2,26,728 beneficiaries.
Seven cities of the state also find place in the list of top 10 cities of the country.
Varanasi, Lucknow and Aligarh are the top three cities in the list even as other cities of the
state include Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Ghaziabad and Kanpur.
Union Minister launches ‘e-Dharti Geo portal’

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri has launched the ‘e-Dharti
Geo Portal’.
The portal has been launched to integrate legacy drawings such as maps and lease plans in
the management information system and make its geographic information system (GIS)-
enabled.
With the launch of the portal the property certificate details and outline map of the
property can be easily accessed online.
The portal will also help a purchaser to learn about the details of the property whether any
lawsuit is pending in respect of the property.
